I am a victim of Greg Bottoms Colorful Apocalypse book, I wish to express in my own words what a miscarriage of the truth this book is. I can say nothing good about the book even when and if he makes a statement that is unoffensive it is still colored somewhat by his own contemptible mind. Why would anyone be so determined to misrepresent facts? Claiming to be a creative nonfiction writer of memoirs and protected by some strange new category of fictional writing using us as guinea pigs. There is no protection for any writer lying about his subjects and we have been damaged and we will suffer the scars forever. It does not matter what kind of excuse he and his publisher gives for attacking us, the truth is he deliberately set out to destroy us and make fun of Southern people and visionary artist mocking Christianity and the fundamentalists Protestant Christian church. Shame on a great institution of education Chicago University for printing this blasphemy. The book is a hoax bearing no truth whatsoever not tainted with his poison venom pen. Not only are there no color images inside the book but he dwells on little pet peeves in mocking people rather than talking about the wonderful world of outsider art because I believe his mind is in a cesspool. My art speaks for itself. Bottoms seems to have a forked tongue and split personality, one that comes on like an everyday guy but then another dark character whom I never met and do not recognize stating fabrications and total lies against me, my family and everyone he met in the South. Bottoms is taking advantage of whatever history he can dig up to inflame and to create controversy when there is none. It is OK for anyone to criticize my art so long as they tell the truth and do not distort its meaning. It is not OK to put words in my mouth or to change my theology based on his limited understanding. Bottoms has expanded on my vision to paint art stating that I saw the Book of Revelation when I did not and never have claimed, that is a vision of the apostle John. I saw the coming of the Lord and the world on fire with an unmistakable command to paint what I saw. It was five years later before I felt led to paint the Book of Revelation 300 ft. long shown all across the country. To say that the American Visionary Art Museum is my pimp is evidence that the writer is very disturbed and may endanger himself and others. All his writings about racism, anti-Semitic-white Jesus is his own "creative nonfiction memoirs" revealing himself not me. Who is doing the ranting and raging? Its Bottoms not me. The audacity of one coming into our home and later making fun of everyone, being introduced to my mother and my brother and even lying about them also. There's no limit to the damage this man has done. We asked Chicago University Press to recall book and give us equal time to counteract it. They are treating us like non human beings and I would not expect that type of treatment. Thank God the book is reported to not be selling. The way to sell books is on somebody's blood. We artist were never asked to review the book even though we are the only ones that would know he is lying about us. Bottoms teaches "creative nonfiction memoir" writing at the University of Vermont and this must be his test case. He is a sad case himself and must be a miserable man with trouble at hand. His letters of desperation admitting he got it wrong and offering to pay for having it changed but that's just one wrong thing in his experimental creative nonfiction memoir (fiction lying) as he teaches his students apparently at the University of Vermont. What kind of world is this? The creative nonfiction theory does not change the laws of this country against slander. Bottoms has attacked us viciously on many fronts as fundamentalist Christian which we are not and particularly singled out Pentecostal Holiness people for ridicule and the art is only a vehicle for him to attack us in his trying to rekindle the civil war. Pentecost fell again on people in a church in Los Angeles in 1904 similar to the Day of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2 of the New Testament Bible. Bottoms scrambles up our contributions to Christian missions, too bad he did not use his tapes or notes "for fear of getting it right" My wife and I have supported missionaries to South Africa, Central and West Africa for many years even building churches and helping build a Bible College in Nigeria. To say we're racists is a lie and if bottoms does not want to be called a liar he should not lie. No, I did not see the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse as he states on page X5 of his lying book. I have painted that scene from the Revelation of the vision the apostle John saw on the Isle of Patmos 1900 years ago described in the Book of Revelation. People ask me how I paint art with my hands crippled and my answer is I really do not know. I have no idea and I never question that myself. I never really think about it. Last year I was commissioned to paint the 7 Days of Creation for the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore for their permanent collection. Each day is 12 x 16 ft. and covers about 1800 sf totally, the size of an average house. This painting was shown on Ace of Cakes nationally on the Food Channel recently. I praise God for it and it is my pleasure to do it free of charge. More recently I painted a gigantic waterfalls, a theropy piece for the Greenville Mental Health Center hanging now in their lobby 9x15 ft.. They saw my art on ETV from Kansas City. South Carolina ETV has done extensive documentary on my work and the State Museum has my work in their permanent collection. Does Bottoms think he can counteract all this witness to trash me, my family, my mother and brother and the "poor Christian South? Also my dear friend Norbert Kox, I am honored to paint collaborations with from Green Bay Wisconsin. If I were guilty of what Bottoms accuses me of then Norbert would have never associated himself with me. He has been here to our home a number of times working with me on our collaborations. The Shannondor Valley is the most beautiful place on earth and Virginia Tech must be the greatest school at Blacksburg. Strangely enough Bottoms came from that area. In the same way that the school failed to detect a developing problem in a disturbed Korean student, I believe a similar mistake is being made in not detecting Greg Bottoms problem. Bottoms is not one generation removed from the poor South as he states in the book. He was living in northwestern Virginia when I met him in Baltimore as the idolatry painting was showing. He moved to Vermont when he got the job with the University of Vermont. enough creative nonfiction memoir writing was valid then and the million little pieces would not have been such a big deal nor would it not the New York Times have been in such big trouble when one of their journalists either plagiarize or fabricated his stories. I question why the University of Vermont issued a grant for him to write about outsider artist under an experimental educational theory termed as advanced creative nonfiction memoirs teaching students to practice lying journalism and butchering real people. We must require answers from the University of Vermont because this practice will not stand a light of day. Now they will see the damage Bottoms is done using this wicked weapon. Bottoms is losing his cool and appears to be falling apart from his storm of e-mail's last Saturday to Norbert wherein he further accuses me of things while admitting he made a mistake on the 666 calculation that's on the front cover in our painting and offering to correct it at his own expense. In those emails he said I have threatened to hang him with his tapes. I did say "his tapes would prove him a liar". They must not ignore all the facts in the case.
